The Cool Teacher

I'm going to warn you all in advance, this post is done to fulfill a course requirement. However, it will hopefully still be interesting.
I think everyone at one point or another has that really cool teacher that changes the way they look at the world. I've had a couple that I can think of. One was my AP English Lit teacher back in high school, and the other is one of my English professors here at USU. I've always loved to read, but because of these teachers I learned how to read in new and exciting ways. The hidden depth of literature began to open up to me, and I became addicted to not only reading, but thinking about what I read. Another side-effect of these awesome teachers is that I decided to become a teacher myself. I guess it's only natural, since I never stop talking about books anyway (just ask my old roommates--one of them snuck out a window to avoid hearing about William Blake). I have loads of ideas about how I want to teach my classes, but one thing I'm sure of is that I want to help inject the same passion and excitement into the study of literature as my favorite teachers did. Basically I want to be the cool teacher. The one where you learn a ton precisely because it doesn't feel like learning, it feels like living! And that's what literature is all about: life, in all its splendor. So that's it in a nutshell. Why I want to teach. Shape young minds, and help kids to see the beauty that exists in even the most commonplace things.
